Adoption Update 2.5

We finished up our Home Visit this week and it went really well. Did I mention that I love our Case Worker!!! She is so good at making us feel right at home and keeping us informed. She said she could be done with the paperwork in two weeks!!!! At that point the lawyer will have our profile and be able to shop it around- we are still going the "private adoption" route so the lawyer will be the only one shopping around our profile. And we'll be praying that the right birth mom comes her way!!!

We were scheduled to have our adoption physical on Monday only to find out that our Doc is not seeing anyone this week/month. We were re-scheduled for today with a nurse practitioner. I thought we'd be in and out and on to the next thing, but there are some lab test that need to be done...luckily we asked first if our insurance would cover those tests. It would have been a huge shocker to get the tests done then later find out they weren't covered. Two of the four were covered, but might be cheaper at the Health Department....we were told.

Daniel and I attended a funeral of a friend from our church this afternoon. He was in my parents small group and was always lending a helping hand. He loved music and Daniel was able to sing two songs at his funeral. It was a wonderful memorial of a man who dearly loved Jesus. Rick Hurst you will be truly missed.

After the funeral went to the Health Department this afternoon and probably arrived at about 2:59....it seemed we waited 3 minutes until someone came to the front desk to check us in only to find out that they stop taking walk-ins at 3:00pm. We all looked at the clock which said 3:02pm *Daniel checked his phone which said 3:01pm. I really think I said "seriously" out loud. I'm not sure why it made me so mad. I understand that they have to cut off their line at some point, but really we were so close!!!! Luckily we have very flexible schedules, what about those individuals that really need medical care and don't have such flexibility or the ease of travel arrangements. I was so ticked off. It took me awhile to calm down. I so wanted to check this off the list today, but now it looks like it will be sometime next week. It the big scheme of things it wasn't that big a deal, but I wasn't expecting it and it totally threw me for a loop.

Honestly this is the first thing that hasn't been easy in the adoption process....which is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

And by the time we're holding a little baby in our arms I will have completely forgotten this set-back.

I so feel your pain about the health department. At least the health department there takes walk-ins. Wow, that is amazing. Ours you have to call at 8am every morning to attempt to get an appointment. Usually by 8:15am they are book up for that day and the next day. So you have to call every morning until they can get you in. Once it took 3 weeks! No wonder our government is over budget.

You are correct...once you have a baby in your arms you forget all the crazy stuff you have to do to get him/her there! And it is worth it all!

Congratulations! I believe with all my heart that God calls certain people to be adoptive parents. That is what I believe he called my husband and I to do. We have been married for 10 years. We went through every form of fertility treatment you could think of, multiple times to no avail. In our 5th year of marriage we conceived without treatment only to lose our little girl at 21 weeks gestation due to no kidneys. Devistation can't even begin to describe how that felt. But through it all we knew God had a plan fo our lives, for us. We moved from California to Missouri where my husband was audio director at a church. During a ministry fair he saw a booth who was offering a Christian perspective to foster/adoption and who worked with the state in licensing. We immediatly signed up, went through the 9 week class with the always the intent foster to adopt. We had such specific criteria for what WE wanted. Infant to two years old, preferably a girl, no more than two siblings etc...In September, 2007 we became the legal adoptive parents of FOUR boys all siblings, ages 10, 9, 7 and 5. God sure does make things happen when He's ready. There are ups and downs and we pray everyday that we remember to always show grace and love to our children. It's not what I imagined...it's better.
