Adoption Seminar

My mom and I went to the Clarksville Adoption Seminar today. Our church hosted it...rather the school that our church meets in hosted it, but folks from our church put it all together. They did a wonderful job showing you all the possible pieces to the puzzle. Now it's up to individual families to put the puzzle that works for their family together. Today we learned about Domestic (within the United States), International, and Foster Care adoptions. It was very informative and tender testimonies (and pictures) were shared throughout the day. I'm very glad that we are in the process instead of on the outside wondering where to begin.

When we left my mom was even more excited and was ready to go buy baby things. I think we are to the point where we are all thinking about a baby entering our home more and more. Unlike being pregnant we won't know the expected due date (unless a birth mother chooses us well in advance of her delivery), but like being pregnant we are all getting excited and thinking of what we need to do to make it a reality. What about nursery colors, what about a crib, what about a rocking chair, what about fun things. This is the exciting part! AHHHHH!!!! :)

Adoption Update 2.5

We finished up our Home Visit this week and it went really well. Did I mention that I love our Case Worker!!! She is so good at making us feel right at home and keeping us informed. She said she could be done with the paperwork in two weeks!!!! At that point the lawyer will have our profile and be able to shop it around- we are still going the "private adoption" route so the lawyer will be the only one shopping around our profile. And we'll be praying that the right birth mom comes her way!!!

We were scheduled to have our adoption physical on Monday only to find out that our Doc is not seeing anyone this week/month. We were re-scheduled for today with a nurse practitioner. I thought we'd be in and out and on to the next thing, but there are some lab test that need to be done...luckily we asked first if our insurance would cover those tests. It would have been a huge shocker to get the tests done then later find out they weren't covered. Two of the four were covered, but might be cheaper at the Health Department....we were told.

Daniel and I attended a funeral of a friend from our church this afternoon. He was in my parents small group and was always lending a helping hand. He loved music and Daniel was able to sing two songs at his funeral. It was a wonderful memorial of a man who dearly loved Jesus. Rick Hurst you will be truly missed.

After the funeral went to the Health Department this afternoon and probably arrived at about 2:59....it seemed we waited 3 minutes until someone came to the front desk to check us in only to find out that they stop taking walk-ins at 3:00pm. We all looked at the clock which said 3:02pm *Daniel checked his phone which said 3:01pm. I really think I said "seriously" out loud. I'm not sure why it made me so mad. I understand that they have to cut off their line at some point, but really we were so close!!!! Luckily we have very flexible schedules, what about those individuals that really need medical care and don't have such flexibility or the ease of travel arrangements. I was so ticked off. It took me awhile to calm down. I so wanted to check this off the list today, but now it looks like it will be sometime next week. It the big scheme of things it wasn't that big a deal, but I wasn't expecting it and it totally threw me for a loop.

Honestly this is the first thing that hasn't been easy in the adoption process....which is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

And by the time we're holding a little baby in our arms I will have completely forgotten this set-back.

Adoption Update

We've turned in all of our paperwork. We've met individually with our case worker. She is so wonderful to work with (nice and efficient). I'm so glad we got her name from a friend at church. Next week she'll come to our house for the home visit and check out our house and meet with us together. Then she will write up the actual paperwork and the homestudy part will be complete!!!

We also go to the Dr's next week for check ups and they are waiting on the results of our fingerprinting to come back. Those are the only few missing pieces to this puzzle. ...and of course the baby. :)

I told our caseworker yesterday that in a few years it will be so wonderful to look back on this and see how God put the pieces together. I am confident He is at work even though I can't see the end result or how it's all going to come together.

Our church is having a free Adoption Seminar in a couple of weeks. If you are in or around the Clarksville area come check it out. It should be very informative...and it's free!!!!
